Introduction
As I was riding into work during the winter, I wanted to try and reduce my risk of being hit by a car. I decided to make myself very noticeable and different to the drivers, which will hopefully mean they will drive with more care around me.
Features
Attached to the helmet are 4 3W LEDs, 2 green and 2 blue. At the back there is a connecter which connects to the battery pack and electronics, this pack goes into my bag.
- 2 x 3W blue LED
- 2 x 3W green LED
- 11.1v 2200mAh Li-Po battery
- Microcontroller for customisable flash sequence
- 2 x DC-DC constant current power supplies for effciency.
- Quick releasing connector to helmet
Design
I used 2 constant current drivers I got ebay to drive theĀ LEDs, I can drive the blue and green ones separatly.
An AVR is used to controll them, this is probably a bit over kill but it’s what I have lying about!
The battery and electroncis goes into my bag and connects to the helmet via the 4 pin connector. This was design so if there was an accident it would pull easily away from the helmet, and not pull it off my head.
