In 2019 I purchase a Sherline CNC milling machine from Ebay. It was my first go at CNC milling and helped me learn a lot about home milling and some simple design and CAM. The Sherline is a very nice little machine and is great for very small parts. It handle aluminium OK if you go slow and runs Linux CNC.
In 2020 I found a very nice Taig DSLS 3000 on Ebay which I won for a great price. It is about 50% larger than the Sherline and I think quite a lot newer. The Taig has encoders on the stepper motors which detect and try to correct up to 200 missed steps. If it can not correct the missed steps it give a fault which stops the machine. It came with a MACH 3 license and Windows PC and connects via a parallel port.
